Hello to all of my friends here on The Hot Lap! It is hard to believe that we are already at Homestead and wrapping up the 2010 season. Man, did this year fly by! As focused as I am on this weekend, I’m already looking forward to heading to Daytona in February. I think we have a lot of great things coming next year. I know that this off-season is going to fly for everyone.
Before I talk off-season fun, let me jump back to this weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway. I got here on Thursday morning and headed straight to South Beach with my Turner Motorsports teammate, Jason Leffler. We had fun hanging out at the Coca-Cola Fuels NASCAR Championship Drive. We did some Q&A onstage with Miss Sprint Cup Amanda and then signed autographs for a bunch of fans. It was pretty cool, people could wander from the beach and right over to the fan fest area. After that Leffler and I grabbed some lunch and headed to the track. My motor home is parked on the lake here inside the speedway – waterfront property! I always like to do a little fishing for fun in the lake. My motor home driver, Joe, even had some bait waiting for me when I got here. It was nice to relax back here in the infield and enjoy the evening. We did get some rain here at the track last night, but before it started pouring, I wandered over to watch the Turner Motorsports trucks practice. My crew chief, Trent Owens, is pulling double-duty as a crew chief this weekend in the both Nationwide and Truck Series, helping out Brad Sweet and the No. 90 Great Clips truck team.
I’m up and ready to go this morning (Friday). It is a really nice day here in Homestead, Florida. Sunny, some wind, nice and warm but not too muggy. What a great way to wrap up the year. I’ve had a pretty good year with the Dollar General team. We’ve had solid runs and consistent finishes. Together we have nine top-five and 21 top-10 finishes. That’s only in 27 races, too! I think we have built a really good foundation for next year for even better things. Next year I am running for the driver’s championship. I am really looking forward to running the entire Nationwide Series season with Turner Motorsports!
However, before I do that, I am going to enjoy the off-season. I have a ton of things planned so I am sure it will go by fast! Right now my plans are to go hunting, get to as many Atlanta Falcons games as I can and spend time with friends and my family. I’ll also be working with the Turner guys to get ready for 2011. The guys on the team will be extra busy this winter building our fleet of “new cars” that we’ll be running them in every Nationwide Series race next year.
Well, I better run. I need to eat some lunch then head to the hauler a little early for practice so I can get measured for next year’s fire suit. Hopefully we’ll have a great weekend here at Homestead. Finishing up the season on a high note will give us good momentum over the winter. I want to thank all of my guys for a great year, my great sponsor, Dollar General, Nationwide for continuing to promote the series, and of course a HUGE thank you to all of you…our fans. Without you, NASCAR wouldn’t be the great sport that it is.
