Atlanta Motor Speedway has always held a special place in Reed Sorenson’s heart and he is thrilled to be back this weekend in the No. 32 Dollar General Toyota. It was here that the Peachtree City, Georgia-native claimed track championships early in his career and turned heads leading 47 laps in only his third NASCAR Nationwide Series start! He also made his Sprint Cup Series debut at the Hampton, Ga.-based speedway.
- This weekend marks Sorenson’s sixth Nationwide Series start at Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS). In five previous starts, he has started inside the top-10 on two occasions. His best start of fourth and his best finish of 10th came in his most recent NNS appearance at the 1.54-mile in October, 2009. Sorenson returns to Atlanta with a total of 276 starts in his NASCAR career which spans seven years (2004-2010).
- The Reed Sorenson Charity Golf Classic takes place Friday, September 3 at Crystal Lake Golf and Country Club in Hampton, Ga. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit Speedway Children’s Charities. - Did you know…? In 1998, Sorenson began racing Legends Cars. He claimed southeastern championships, collected 13 wins and broke track records during his rookie year. He spent five full seasons (1998-2002) in Legends Cars, racking up a total of 84 wins, 152 top-five and 166 top-10 finishes in 183 starts and was named the track champion at Atlanta Motor Speedway in 1998, 1999 and 2001.
- Great Clips 300 at Atlanta Motor Speedway… For the first time, Braun Racing marketing partner, Great Clips, will serve as title sponsor of the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Minneapolis-based, Great Clips Inc. is the longest-running primary sponsor in the Nationwide Series.
- Chassis #54 is ready to head to the Peach State! The Dollar General team will unload chassis #054 this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Last seen on track at Chicagoland Speedway (July, 2010), this car made its debut this year at Charlotte Motor Speedway (May, 2010) and has finished inside of the top-10 in each of its three races! Sorenson drove it to a fifth-place finish at Kentucky Speedway and eighth-place finishes at both Charlotte and Chicagoland.
Sorenson on returning “home” to Atlanta Motor Speedway:
“It is always great to come back home to Georgia and Atlanta Motor Speedway. Atlanta is a really fun track. It’s one of the fastest that we race at. I love racing here, and to drive the Dollar General Toyota into victory lane at my home track, and with my family and friends here, would be incredibly special to me. It would be my first NASCAR win here and I would love to do it with Braun Racing and Dollar General.”
