Michael McDowell, former driver of the No. 55 PRISM Motorsports Toyota, will take over driving duties of the No. 46 effective immediately.
McDowell, who has been primarily start-and-parking the No. 55 for PRISM, will drive the complete races for Whitney Motorsports.
“That’s the main factor for me,” McDowell said in an interview with Sirius Speedway. “Prism Motorsports was great and I appreciate everything they’ve done for me this year. But Dusty’s program will allow us to run full races, and that’s huge. We’ll run four or five full races the remainder of this season.”
The five races tentatively include: Atlanta, Phoenix, Texas, Talladega and Homestead. McDowell then plans to run some races in 2011 for Whitney Motorsports with the hopes sponsorship can be found to run the entire season.
“I’m happy to join up with Dusty and Whitney Motorsports again,” said McDowell. “We worked together in the Nationwide Series last season and got along really well, so when he called and asked if I would be interested in driving his Cup car I jumped at it.”
For the remaining intermediate track races, Whitney Motorsports will field Chevrolet’s with Earnhardt-Childress Racing Engines. They plan to continue running Dodges at some select events.
