Kasey Kahne likely to drive for Red Bull Racing in 2011

ESPN and SceneDaily.com are reporting Rick Hendrick has sealed a deal with Red Bull Racing for Kasey Kahne to drive one of the teams cars next season.

In April, Hendrick signed Kahne with the promise he would find him a ride for 2011 and in 2012 he would take over the No. 5, currently driven by Mark Martin. Martin has been resistant to vacating the car early for Kahne and plans to drive it next season.

It is unclear what manufacture Red Bull Racing will use next season, but they are currently in a long term contract with Toyota after resigning late last season.

Kahne, who has 11 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victories, is touted as the future of Hendrick Motorsports.

“When you look at his record… he’s already one of the stars… it’s a golden opportunity,” said Rick Hendrick in April. “This is an investment in our future and we’re excited to have him.”

Once the likely deal with Red Bull Racing is completed Kasey Kahne will have a home for 2011 after months of speculation. The one question that remains is who will be Kahne’s teammate? Currently Scott Speed and Brian Vickers drive for the team, with Vickers sidelined due to blood clots.

A decision on Vickers future will be made in November after more is known about his treatment.

Scott Speed has had mixed results with Red Bull Racing.
