Rusty Wallace Racing Heads to Watkins Glen

Steve Wallace, No. 66 5-Hour Energy Toyota Camry:   ·         Wallace enters Watkins Glen riding streaks of both three straight top-ten finishes and three straight top-ten starts.   ·         His ten top-ten finishes in 2010 mark a new single-season career high, despite having 14 races remaining in the 2010 season.   ·         Wallace’s streaks of nine-consecutive top-15 finishes and nine-consecutive lead lap finishes are the second-longest in each respective category. Currently ranked seventh overall in the 2010 driver standings, Wallace has been ranked among the top-ten for the last nine weeks.   ·         He has three top-ten finishes in nine career road course starts, including a ninth-place effort in the season’s first road race at Road America. His best finish at the Glen (12th) came in last year’s running of this weekend’s event.   ·         Wallace’s primary car for this weekend’s event is RWR-016, raced by Wallace in the last four road course events. His backup is RWR-028, last driven by Wallace to a pair of top-ten finishes at Mexico City and Montreal in 2008.   ·         Both Wallace and teammate Brendan Gaughan recently participated in a test session at Road Atlanta in preparation for the high-speed Watkins Glen circuit. The No. 66 team has elected to incorporate a new package developed at the test into their setup this weekend, while Gaughan has opted for more of the team’s traditional road course setup.   ·         Led by crew chief Scott McDougall (Syracuse), Wallace’s No. 66 team features four New York natives. Others include Eddie D’Hondt, Jr. (East Islip), Ed Susen (New Hampton) and Dennis O’Connor, Sr. (Mattituck).   ·         Rusty Wallace Racing and 5-Hour Energy are proud to welcome Wilson Farms to their family of partners for this weekend’s event at Watkins Glen.     Brendan Gaughan, No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Toyota Camry:   ·         Gaughan’s love of road racing led him to team with veteran Andy Lally for last year’s Grand-Am event at Montreal, in which the duo scored a runner-up GT class finish. With his affinity for road racing thus strengthened, Gaughan heads to Watkins Glen sporting one top-five and two top-ten finishes in the last three Nationwide Series road course events. His best career road course finish (third) came in this year’s first road race at Road America.   ·         Through RWR’s affiliation with Joe Gibbs Racing, Denny Hamlin’s No. 11 Sprint Cup Series pit crew will be servicing Gaughan’s No. 62 during the race on Saturday. This is in an effort to provide the No. 11 team with additional experience performing “reverse” pit stops, which are exclusive on the schedule to Watkins Glen and Road America.   ·         Gaughan’s sixth-place finish two weeks ago at Indianapolis marked his seventh top-ten of 2010, putting him just one shy of the eight top-tens he tallied in all of 2009.   ·         The primary car for Gaughan this weekend is RWR-027, which has two straight top-ten finishes with Gaughan aboard (Ninth—Montreal 2009, Third—Road America 2010). The “27 car” was the outside pole-winner at Montreal in 2008 with Italian “Mad” Max Papis at the controls. Gaughan’s backup is RWR-023, which he last raced at Watkins Glen in 2009. The “23 car” also ran at The Glen with Papis in 2008, where it scored an 11th-place finish.
