Reed’s Blog – Dover

First of all, I want to give a shout out to my teammate, Brian Vickers. As I’m sure you have heard, he’s in the hospital undergoing tests and treatment for some blot clots. He’s doing great and definitely appreciates everyone’s thoughts and prayers.

This weekend we are off to Dover, Delaware. I’ll be back in the No. 32 Dollar General Toyota for the Nationwide Series race. I’m really looking forward to hitting the “Monster Mile” with Trent and the guys. I think we have a chance of running really well there. The No. 32 team unloads solid cars, so we’ll get to spend Friday’s practice tweaking on the handling. When you know you’re going to start off with a good car, practice is much more enjoyable!

This actually isn’t my first trip to Dover with Braun Racing. Last fall I drove the No. 10 AccuDoc Solutions car. We unloaded with a GREAT car but I hit the wall really hard in practice with it. Probably one of the hardest hits I’ve had in a long time. The guys worked hard on the backup and we qualified 10th and finished seventh. Not bad at all with a backup car!

Last weekend, the Dollar General team was in Darlington with Vickers. I know they were hoping for a better finish, but he was really happy with the car and he agreed with Trent on the last pit stop. In the end, track position was more valuable that fresh tires. Both Trent and Vickers agreed staying out would have been better but, as they say, hind sight is 20/20. I drove the No. 32 Cup car in Saturday’s race. Unfortunately, I made contact with the wall and our night ended early. The guys did a great job with the car. We are not running it this weekend at Dover. The teams are all focused on getting ready for next week’s Daytona test and our guys at the shop are hard at work finishing things up. We leave for Daytona early on Tuesday morning.

After practice tonight, I’m heading to the Dover Air Force Base to meet with soldiers and their families. As one of my previous sponsors, I have had great experiences with the Air Force in the past and am looking forward to tonight a lot! Well, time to get back to work.

Have a great weekend everyone!
