Howard and ML Motorsports Ready to Race at Bristol

It’s the much anticipated return to Thunder Valley and Bristol Motor Speedway for Shelby Howard and the ML Motorsports team. Howard is looking forward to “racin’ the way it ought’a be” at one of the premier short tracks on the circuit.

When the cars return to Bristol Motor Speedway, drivers may feel like they’re missing something — almost three feet of race track exiting two of the corners on the half-mile oval. The speedway is extending the SAFER barrier 84 feet coming out of Turns 2 and 4, a move that will narrow those transition areas by about three feet each, and will most likely result in tighter racing.

When asked about Bristol, Howard states “I’m excited about going back to Bristol, we have a done a lot of testing over the winter with the car we are taking there and I learned a lot. As far as the new extension of the safer barrier, it will simply make the already tight corner just a little tighter. But at the end of the day, it will be the same for everyone. With already one race down for ML Motorsports we are looking forward to our 2nd race at Bristol and hopefully a top 10 finish”.

This is the second NASCAR Nationwide Series event of the 2010 season for Howard and Team 70. They competed in the season opener at Daytona International Speedway, starting 31st and finishing 18th. The team was excited about a top 20 finish to start off the 2009 season and are looking forward to short track racing on the high-banked, half-mile track where trading paint and banging fenders is the norm.

The Scotts Turf Builder 300 will be aired on ABC at 2:30 pm Saturday, March 20th. Practice is scheduled for Friday at 1:40 pm and 4:45 pm with qualifying on Saturday at 9:40 am.
