Reed’s Blog – Atlanta

Finally, I have a weekend off! As excited as I am to get back in the Dollar General Toyota, I have to admit that it is going to be really nice to be home for weekend. The weather is supposed to be great in North Carolina, so I’m looking forward to spending some time outside with the dogs. The weather will be a nice change after the cold and rain we’ve faced on the road so far this season. Speaking of the weather, we didn’t test at Rockingham this week because of the snow that swept through North Carolina…AGAIN. Who would have thought we would get so much snow in the South?! We have rescheduled the test for next week. Let’s hope Old Man Winter will leave us alone so we can hit the track.

Reed Sorenson

I know there have been a lot of questions regarding our next Cup race. As you all know, I was originally going to drive the Dollar General Toyota at Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend. Trent Owens (my crew chief) and the team owner, Todd Braun, decided that we would postpone the next race until Texas. After we originally posted our Cup schedule, NASCAR announced that they were going to do away with the wing on the Sprint Cup cars and go back to the traditional spoiler. For a new team like ours, it doesn’t make sense to build a car that is going to be obsolete in only a few races. Instead, we are going to build one with the spoiler, participate in NASCAR’s open test at Charlotte Motor Speedway and then take that car to Texas in April.

Because we are going into an off-weekend, I wanted to share with all of you one of my favorite off-season hobbies. Every year I take off with some friends and go hunting. This year, we went hunting in Virginia and Mississippi. I’m not the greatest hunter, but what I really enjoy is the chance to just get away and enjoy the peace and quiet. It’s always a welcome break to go where cell phones don’t work!

As you know, we have back-to-back off-weekends coming up, so I thought I’d try something different next week for the blog. Post questions to me as a comment to this blog and I’m going to answer some of them in the next column. Try to have them up by Tuesday night, so that I can start working on the answers. If I can’t get to all of them, I’ll try to answer one or two a week.

Thanks as always for following me here and have a great weekend everyone!

Hey Reed! I plan on being at the Kansas races this fall & I was wondering if you were going to be doing any special signings for the fans or anything. Last year was the first time in like 2 years I didn’t get an autograph & picture with you! Good luck this year!

Hey Reed. Are you excited for the spoiler to come back? I know a lot of other drivers are. And… the Nationwide Series is going to run new cars as well… i different type of COT than Cup… and i was also wondering what your take on it is. I think they look pretty nice, and hopefully they will make for more exciting racing… even though the Nationwide Series has plenty of excitement already!! Can’t wait to see back in action on the track! :)

Hey Reed.. if you were to own a team and had a few seats to fill, who would you look at? I’m not talking super stars like Johnson, Logano, Gordon, etc, but some drivers that are either without a ride this year or are relegated to some struggling nationwide rides? Drivers that dont get alot of mention.

Reed, Its good to hear from you . I thought I would throw out a few things . Have you given any thought as of getting back into a legends car, or perhaps a super latemodel . I would love to see you come and run some Summer Legends Shootouts, or some big money latemodel races . I have grown up watching you from Legends, through Latemodels, ASA, And the few Arce races you ran, I was in Gateway for your win a few years back, I have always spoken highly of you. I would love for you to team up with us and run a few Latemodel races, at the venue’s of Bristol and Martinsville. Just wondering what you think of that and have you thought about running a few races at local tracks for ” Fun” I would love to hear back from you , One of your most loyal fans ! Eric

What up Reed…? What do you think the hardest adjustment was for you: Getting comfortable with the coil-bind set-up on the NNS car or adjusting to the bump stops on the cup car? Hang in there bud we’re behind you all the way dude!

Hey Reed you are my favorite driver been keepping up with you since your rookie Busch season so my question is once you win the Bristol Busch Series race and go and do it again at Nashville would Braun consider letting you run the rest of the Busch season? Same with Cup after a possible win at Texas would Braun let you run the rest of the Cup season? Also are you going too get to race in the Open race too try and make the All Star Race (unless you won Texas then ud already be in it)? And last question are You Reed or Braun planning on letting you run some truck races too make ur truck debut anytime soon? Well thats all the questions i have Good Luck at Bristol Reed thanks for letting us ask questions.

    GO KICKASS AT BRISTOL REED!!

    Reed,
I think this is something everyone talks about when you signed with Gillette Everham did you have any idea about the possible merger with Petty??? If not why would someone sign you just to let you go after a few months??? I am still very confused about how that all transpired I mean even Kasey Kahne said you were the second best car on that team and he didn’t understand the move either….

Hey there Reed! With the recent baby boom in NASCAR I was wondering, would you like to have children? And if you do would you prefer sooner ( not right now necessarily) or down the road? I know with some shows I’ve watched some drivers wives like to have children near the end of their husbands careers so that they can be around more. Also, how did you come up with your dogs names? I have a lab named Oakley ( not after the sunglasses!) and i remember back when you did another journal that you were debating between Oakley and Brutus and chose Brutus, then there’s Zoe and Alvin. All cute names, just curious how you picked them out. Thanks! And good luck this season! :)

    hey Reed,
i just want to start out by saying i’m soooo very thankful that i live near Dover,De even though i’m a complete Maryland girl :) i thoroughly enjoy watching you race twice a year up at the monster mile. thanks for always being so great when i’ve met you. you’re a great guy with a heart of gold!! just letting you know i’m on your side no matter what.
so my question is: do you ever feel weird around some of your girl fans? do you ever get overwhelmed by them?

Hey Reed =) I just want to start out by saying that my boyfriend and I are huge fans of yours! we think you are a wonderful driver and person! we wish we could see you drive more! we hate not seeing you on the track each week. we had the chance to meet you at the Dover Race this past season=) we live in Delaware and are also excited when NASCAR comes to our state! but my question is do you think that going down to the Nationwide series is a downgrade? or do you think it is a chance to become a better driver and possibly be with a better team? Thank you so much & good luck Reed =) We will always be fans of yours -Christina & Joe
