| | Jul 4 NASCAR Na tionwide Series:Following his second-place finish in the Nationwide Series’s previous restrictor plate race at Talladega, Rusty Wallace Racing’s David Stremme (No. 64 Atreus Homes & Communities Chevrolet) looks to be a contender in Friday night’s restrictor plate battle at Daytona as well.Stremme and the No. 64 team posted the second-fastest lap of the weekend in Thursday’s practice session for Friday night’s Winn Dixie 250 at Daytona International Speedway. His best lap of 48.794 seconds (184.449 MPH) was a mere six one-hundredths of a second slower than the first-place team. Noted Stremme, “We had a good run at Talladega and we really think we can do the same here on Friday night. Our car is driving well and that’s all we can really control at this point. You’re kind of at the mercy of everyone else in these plate races, so we’re going to do our best to stay out of trouble and be there at the end. If we can do that, we just might be in a position to win, just like we were at Talladega.Meanwhile, Stremme’s teammate, Steve Wallace (No. 66 Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches Chevrolet), looks to be among the contenders on Friday night as well. Wallace’s best lap of 48.988 seconds (183.788 MPH) was the eighth fastest of the weekend and placed him one of only eight drivers to enter the 48-second bracket on Thursday(RWR) (07-04-08) |
| | | Jul 3 NASCAR Nationwide Series: Tony Stewart has sometimes referred to himself as a 14-year-old trapped in a 37-year-old’s body. At the Aug. 16 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Stewart’s No. 20 Old Spice Toyota will reflect that line of thought.Replacing the traditional candy apple red colors of primary sponsor Old Spice on Stewart’s signature No. 20 machine will be a kaleidoscope of colors care of 14-year-old Emily Marsala. The special paint scheme will commemorate Old Spice’s support of Kissimmee, Fla.-based Give Kids The World, as well as the support of Give Kids The World from Old Spice’s parent company – Procter & Gamble (P&G).Read more (TSC)

| | Jul 3 NASCAR Nationwide Series: Daytona has always been a favorite for Wallace. In his first Nationwide start at the track, Wallace achieved a pole-winning run. Since then, he's accumulated eight top-10 results at the track. And his restrictor plate success isn't limited to Daytona. At Talladega, Wallace has scored ten total top-10 results in the Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series. Additionally, Wallace had a strong run with his U.S. Border Patrol Team at Talladega earlier in the year. That's making Wallace and the U.S. Border Patrol Team excited at the prospects of this weekend. "We're looking forward to Daytona," said Wallace. "At Talladega, we elected to run in the top-5 and we got taken out. This time, we'll see what the field does before making our plan." (JRR) (07-03-08) |
| | Jul 3 NASCAR Nationwide Series: Bryan Clauson, No. 40,-WHAT HAS BEEN THE MAIN THING THAT YOU’VE LEARNED? “A little bit of everything. I learned a lot about how to adjust the cars and working from starting in a bad place and getting the car better. We’ve been working really hard and we have had some ups and downs. We took a really, really strong car to Kentucky and it showed. Just working on our program as a whole and myself and the guys and everything as a whole and what I need in a race car. We’ve been trying to work on that all year and we’ve gotten better. We’ve had some good weeks and we’ve had some bad weeks. I think it’s just part of the learning process.” WHAT WOULD BE A GOOD FINISH FOR YOU ON FRIDAY NIGHT? “A win [smiles]. Like I said, this stuff is kind of a crapshoot but we definitely feel like we’ve got a good enough car to run in the top-10 on a bad night. I feel like if we get out of here with a top-five it’d be an okay night but we’re here to win this weekend. This has historically been one of Ganassi’s better tracks in the Nationwide Series and knowing our superspeedway program has been pretty strong from Day 1 anytime we come here we feel like we have a shot to win and we’re going to be one of the cars to beat. We’ll see. I feel like the car we brought and the improvements we made on it from the spring I feel like we need to either bring back the steering wheel or the trophy so we’ll see what happens.” (RaceCamp) (07-03-08) |

| | Jul 3 NASCAR Nationwide Series:Sitting in the motorhome after a morning of fishing, Zac and Landon Cassill are two typical teen-aged brothers, laughing about funny stories and joking with each other.Typical, except when one considers that Landon -- who won't turn 19 until July 7 -- just finished third in the Craftsman Truck Series race at Milwaukee last weekend. And Zac, who is majoring in geology and ecology at Winona State University in Minnesota, is currently second in the Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League Stren Series, Texas Division. These are two guys with some serious career objectives.Read more (NASCAR.com) (07-03-08) |

| | Jul 2 NASCAR Nationwide Series: Colin Braun on racing at Daytona International Speedway: "I’m looking forward to going back to Daytona. I won my first big Grand Am race down there in 2006 so it’s definitely a special track for me. I’m excited. I haven’t been there since the truck race in February. We were running well that night but I got caught up in a wreck and didn’t finish where I should have. Hopefully we can stay out of trouble and be around at the end this time. I really enjoy running these Nationwide Series races and hopefully we can get a good finish for CitiFinancial." Crew chief Eddie Pardue on racing at Daytona International Speedway: "Our Daytona car is pretty good. We’re taking the same car Greg drove in February. It’s probably not going to be very fast in single car runs but we should draft really well. Luck plays such a huge role down there; it’s hard to predict what’s going to happen. Colin is a smart driver and as long as he’s not in the wrong place at the wrong time, I think he’ll have the CitiFinancial Ford Fusion up front at the end." (RFR) (07-02-08) |
| | Jul 2 NASCAR Nationwide Series:N NS Notes for Daytona-As the second half of the season begins, Clint Bowyer continues to lead the series standings but things could be heating up — and soon. David Reutimann picked up a few points but more importantly, one place, as he moved into second after New Hampshire. And reigning champion Carl Edwards (No. 60 Save-A-Lot Ford) may be making his move as well. Edwards is five points behind Reutimann and is back in third place for the first time in three races. And his 187-point deficit to Bowyer is the closest he’s been to first since he was 144 points out following May’s race at Dover International Speedway.Jason Leffler has proven to be a strong qualifier at Daytona where he’s started inside the top three over his last five races there. He won the pole for this race last year and also captured the pole at the 2.5-mile tri-oval when running in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in 2003.Leffler will drive the car he’s competed with in his last five restrictor-plate events. Included in that group is last April’s race at Talladega where he finished fourth, his career-best at a restrictor-plate track. He’s never qualified outside the top three driving this car. Will the second time at Daytona be a charm for Mark Green (No. 70 Foretravel Chevrolet)? In February, Green ran into tough luck and was forced to go to a backup car due to an accident in practice. Then after a solid 12th-place qualifying effort, he was relegated to 41st after an accident on Lap 55.The team returns to Daytona armed with confidence following a fifth-place finish at Talladega Superspeedway in its last restrictor-plate race in April—the best finish for ML Motorsports in its NASCAR history and also tying Green’s best career effort.(NASCAR) (07-02-08) |
| | Jul 2 NASCAR Nationwide Series: The No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota has eight wins and five poles this season among four different drivers. But there’s been one constant to the formula – crew chief Dave Rogers. The native of Marshfield, Vt., notched win No. 8 at his home track last weekend in New Hampshire, perhaps the sweetest of them all. Rogers is used to being the stable force among change. After serving as crew chief for the first half of Jason Leffler’s one-year NASCAR Sprint Cup season in 2005, Rogers moved over to the NASCAR Nationwide Series in 2006 and managed Denny Hamlin’s second full season in the series in the No. 20, guiding the rising star to his first wins (2) and poles (6 – led series). In 2007, Rogers managed the No. 20 and its five drivers, securing four wins and a series-leading seven poles. Hamlin will run the No. 20 Friday at Daytona.(NASCAR) (07-02-08) |
